On Saturday, May 10th 2008, the Waldoboro Recreation Department and the Medomak Valley Community Foundation will host the U.S. Junior Olympic Skills Competition at Medomak Valley High School. Registration begins at 1:00pm in the Gym Lobby. This event is free and open to area youngsters between the ages of 8 and 13. Boys and girls compete separately in a variety of skills including basketball, soccer, tennis, and track & field. Children may participate in any or all of the athletic sports. This program is designed to encourage youth participation in sport while promoting sportsmanship.
Children must be born between the dates shown to be eligible to participate in their respective age group. All participants must present a birth certificate, or baptismal record, to verify age, and complete a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition.
- Ages 8-9 - Born between 9/1/98 & 8/31/00
- Ages 10-11 - Born between 9/1/96 & 8/31/98
- Ages 12-13 - Born between 9/1/94 & 8/31/96
Champions from this local qualifying event will advance to the Regional Competition in hopes of advancing to the National Finals in Colorado Springs. Last year, local Waldoboro athlete Nick Anderson did just that by posting one of the three best scores in the country for his age group in the Soccer Competition.
