Waldoboro, Maine - On Saturday, August 18, 2008, Waldoboro's Tidemark Gallery hosted 45 artists for a celebration of art and local beauty. The artists came from throughout New England, New York, Pennsylvania, Canada, and France. They created paintings inspired by views of the Waldoboro-Friendship area, and in the evening, the public joined the artists at a reception and live auction of these paintings.
The artists donated a portion of the auction proceeds to four Waldoboro non-profit organizations that helped organize the event. When asked about the results, John Blamey, Paint the Town Committee chair, stated, "With the great help of Kaja Veilleux, Thomaston Place Auction Galleries, we sold in excess of $13,700 in art, and our non-profit partners earned over $800 for their organizations."
In discussing Paint the Town, Charlotte Davenhill, Tidemark Gallery owner, said, "This year's Paint the Town continued the successful partnership of the Gallery, the Medomak Valley Community Foundation, the Medomak Valley Land Trust, the Waldoboro Lions Club, and the Waldoboro Public Library. Each year our goals are to ensure the artists enjoy a day of painting, and that the community enjoys a social event celebrating art and the beauty of our area. Feedback from everyone indicates that the Team achieved its goals. We are very pleased with the results and look forward to next year."
Paint the Town 2009 will be on Saturday, August 15, 2009.
