Construction Update

Week 10 - September 1-5, 2008

This week you will clearly see the changes to the site from previous construction updates. For all purposes, the construction phase is complete and we are now in the “watering and wait” phase.

As usual, we begin at the Miller School corner of the site. This time we are looking toward the Miller School playground. The road is complete and the trees have been planted to fill in the corner of the lot.

When we turn-around, this is our view back toward the Little League field and parking area. The crew will be putting the loam back around the trees and seeding now that the landscaper has finished planning the trees. There are 5 varieties of trees on the site designed to provide a sound and light barrier, and also enhance the rural feel of the site.

As we move down the road toward the Little League field this is a view of the field and the drainage swale for run-off. The field has been hydro-seeded and covered in straw. The parking lot is atop the banking in the distance.

As we look to our right we see the Babe Ruth field and in the distance is the second Grassed Underground Soil Filter (GUSF). Beyond the mound is the road. This will be the point where we plan to cross the wetland for Phase II of the construction.

Turning-around, we are looking back at Miller School and road to Babe Ruth field. The crew was able to make a gentle slope with the abutting property to help with drainage, and also enhance the clean lines of the site.

Here is the view of the Little League field from the parking area. There is a slope that leads to the field level. Water will be channeled to the GUSF seen in the next picture.

Here is the view of the completed GUSF near the Little League field. The previous view was taken looking over the small tree that is in the distance, to the left of the traffic cone.

We complete our tour at the entrance to the site. This is the view of the entry from access road as it bends to the right after the Miles Healthcare parking lot. The gravel pilled on the right will be the finish coat for the parking area and road.

See you in a couple weeks. In the meantime, be a part of this history-making project! Donate during the Heading for Home Challenge.

Every dollar you donate is matched, which means if you give $1.00 it becomes $2.00!

You can donate by mail or at any of Waldoboro’s great community banks, who are generously helping the Foundation during this fundraising campaign.

Remember, if you donate $25.00 you are automatically entered into a raffle to win 4 tickets to the New England Patriots – St. Louis Rams football game on Sunday, October 26. The deadline for donations to qualify for the ticket raffle is Saturday, September 8, 2008.

This prize also includes a limousine ride from your home to the game and return. You get NFL action, and you travel in style through the support of Country Coach Charters of Maine, Nobleboro, Maine.

This week the donations have topped $15,000 including the match! Small donations are making this possible. Thank you for keeping up-to-date on the Waldoboro Recreation Complex, and for your donation to make this project a reality!
